night at a philadelphia fund-raiser. the g.o.p. asked why he wasn't working on a deficit deal. jon cornyn was also at a fund-raiser last night. good morning, happy fourth of july weekend to you. can't we all just get along? >> apparently not in washington. listen, i think the president has a lot of reason to be frustrated with republicans. he offered them tax cuts back in the spring when they forced a government shutdown or threatening to force a government shutdown. he's put everything on the table. they have shown an unwillingness to compromise. it is an important issue in these economic times. it's not going to put a single american to work. it's not going to keep a single american in their home. it's time for them to do what they need to do, put it to bed and move along. >> can you criticize them when members of your own party are walking aassaying i'm not going to be part of this discussion anymore, until i get what i want. >> the republicans are trying to take a stand to not include tax. no one is shedding a tear about staying over fourth of july. republicans are digging in a

of the rest of the pack. jon huntsman, we can mention, he also has a pretty big fund-raising hall for a guy that not a lot of people know about. $4 million. we should mention half of that, though, is money he kicked in himself. he is part of a very wealthy family that owns a chemical company out there in utah. so not too surprising there. one thing we can tell you this morning is that president obama's re-election campaign, they are very proud of the fact that they have a roughly $490,000 contributors who have donated so far to the president's campaign. that is a number that they are tweeting out and getting out today. that is way more than he had back in 2007. of course, not too surprising back then. he was sort of a long shot for the white house. speaking of presidential runs. we should mention that we are getting reports and we are expecting to see thad mccarter, a congressman from michigan. he is well known up in michigan and well known in tea party circles. he is expected to file his paper work today to run for president. mccotter plays the guitar. so we might see him out on the campai

their stump speeches and focusing on the early primary states. mitd romney and jon huntsman both ramping up in new hampshire, even marching in the same parade in amherst yesterday. they're focusing early energy there instead of iowa where the more conservative michele bachmann and newt gingrich spent their fourth of july. and they walked in the same parade, too, in crystal lake, iowa. >> the patriotism of the american people will rise to the occasion and overcome these challenges. >> we're going to spend a lot of time at the vfw halls talking about those who are part of the greatest generation, and guess what, there's also another greatest generation coming up in this country. >> together we make a team that can't be beat. >> let's bring in our company, former governor ed rendell and editorial page editor for "the washington examiner," mark tapscott. gentlemen, good to see you. good morning. >> good morning. >> so the moderates are in new hampshire, the conservatives are in iowa. is it a coincidence, governor, or a strategy? >> no, it's a strategy. they'll meet in south carolina and florida

and jon huntsman met face to face. what did they say? >> it was a nice exchange, a nice greeting. wishing each other luck and being friends. that's the way that all the candidates on the republican side should be. >> reporter: halfway across the country in clear lake, iowa, two other candidates enjoyed the same parade though hardly the same crowds. >> hi there. happy fourth of july. >> reporter: the surging michele bachmann was surrounded by a sparkly throng of supporters and a new campaign bus. the fourth is a glorious day for all americans including candidates. for them, it may be a chance to take a break from their recent big obsession, cash. mitt romney expects to come in somewhere south of 20 million. tim pawlenty, jon huntman and ron paul all way south of that. around 4 million apiece. meanwhile, president obama could raise as much as 60 million, though he spent the day with men and women whose value is beyond priceless. >> i cannot think of anybody i would rather celebrate with than all of you, the men and women of our military and our extraordinary military families. >> reporter:

. hair and mascara, a lethal combo. i'm jon haber of alto music. i've been around music my entire life. this is the first alto music i opened when i was 24. my business is all about getting music into people's hands. letting someone discover how great music is, is just an awesome thing. and the plum card from american express open helps me do that. i use it for as much inventory as i possibly can. from picks...to maracas... to drums... to dj equipment... you name it, i can buy it. and the savings that we get from the early pay discount on those purchases has given us money to reinvest back into our business and help quadruple the size of our floor space. and the more we expand, the more space we have for instruments and musicians to come play them. rock n roll will never die. how can the plum card's trade terms get your business booming? booming is putting more music in more people's hands. diabetes testing? what else is new? you get the blood, hope it's enough, it's-- what's this? freestyle liteĀ® blood glucose test strip. sure, i'll try it, but-- [beep] wow. yep, that's the patented

that will unfold in amherst today. jon huntsman and mitt romney will be in the same fourth of july parade. romney will go first because he applied first. neither will lead the parade. it's reserved for kids on bikes. i did not mean to imply you were coming in on bicycles, by the way. i just meant that activity itself. before we got into the weekend, the numbers were required to be reported on the amount of money raised. joe, when you look, start with you, at the numbers here, mitt romney is saying he got $20 million. much expected. ron paul, tim pawlenty, jon huntsman in the $4 million range and cain at 2$2.5 million. >> huntsman just got in the race. there's a lot of excitement. mitt romney is way ahead. you have to raise -- whoever the nominee is, they have to raise a lot of money. president obama is planning to raise $1 billion. the republicans have to work hard to be competitive. >> richard, when you look at the numbers, they are lowing than last year at this time, understandably, because of many reasons including the economy. should we associate the buzz with any of these candidates with the

was former utah governor jon huntsman, the most moderate of the candidates vying for the anti-romney vote. huntsman has already ruled out competing in iowa and understands new hampshire is a must-win state. >> it is absolutely central to victory. this is a state you must win. >> reporter: in iowa, which votes first in a presidential contest, candidates were fighting for the social conservative vote. there were long shots newt gingrich and rick santorum. as well as tea party sensation michele bachmann. a recent poll has the minnesota congresswoman in a statistical dead heat with romney while gingrich and santorum barely made a dent in the single digits. tim pawlenty also polled poorly there. he raised a disappointing $4.2 million this quarter and has had no public event over the holiday weekend. but those in the bottom half of the poll can take comfort in the fact that the early polls don't tell us that much. this time four years ago mike huckabee was way down at 4% right where rick santorum is today. huckabee ended up winning iowa. >> jan crawford in washington this morning, thanks. >>> j
